From Serpent to Salvation

Mar 2, 2025    Dr. Mark Lantz

In this sermon, Pastor Mark draws a powerful connection between the serpent statue that Moses used in the wilderness and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. He begins by recounting the biblical story found in Numbers 21:5-9, where the Israelites, plagued by venomous snakes as a consequence of their sin, are instructed by God to look at a bronze serpent that Moses made. Anyone who looked at this statue was healed and saved from the deadly bites. Pastor Mark emphasizes that this event serves as a foreshadowing of Christ’s crucifixion. He explains that just as the Israelites were saved by looking at the serpent, we are given salvation through faith in Jesus, who was lifted up on the cross. He references John 3:14-15, where Jesus Himself parallels the two events, stating that just as Moses lifted up the serpent, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, providing eternal life to all who believe in Him.
